Knitalong - There are two designs have similar horizontal knitting elements that will be fun to work up, but they fit differently. The Louisa and Gwendolyn Cardigan are the choices for this knitalong. Both are great for our climate since a cool breeze will swish right through either of them, but still have enough coverage to keep you cozy on any Southern California Winter day.

Knit-A-Longs are always free, but we are limited in our seating so you are required to sign up to reserve your seat. All we ask is that you purchase your yarns from our store for this project. Our first session will be Saturday, October 24th from 1 to 4. We will meet every two weeks for 6 sessions. This is a fun way to take your knitting to the next level and make some great friends along the way. We hope to see you around the table.

Kelie enjoyed seeing Peter the yarn rep and hearing about how the contest between knitters and non-knitters sale reps ended up. She was also disappointed to learn she missed seeing David from Plymouth when he came in. There is a lot of new yarns coming in to the store, stop by for a look!

Common Threads will have every single color of Madeline Tosh at the beginning of next year! Nancy and Kelie discuss which type of yarn they would each prefer to have in all the colors.

There are a lot of Lefties by Martina Behm being completed and Kelie is concerned about dye bleeding onto the lighter yarn choices. Nancy says to make sure there is some soap (or synthrapol) in the soak water so that the excess dye molecules don't stick to the yarn.

Kelie finished Follow Your Arrow 2 by Ysolda Teague and her Adriana by Cocoknits. She is very happy about both finished projects.

Nancy is working on her Western Slope Tee from Interweave Knits Summer 2015.

The San Diego Yarn Crawl was a lot of fun and The Knit Surfers are looking forward to next year! Kelie talks about her experience during the crawl and what stood out.

The future is coming! The Back to the Future trilogy movies go into the future on October 21, 2015 and it's very interesting to see what the vision of the future was back in the late 80s/early 90s. The futuristic yarn at Common Threads is called Abracadabra by Skacel and changes when in the sunlight. A super fun way to make a project that much more special!

Nancy hosted a Dye Workshop this past weekend and had a lot of fun making pretty yarn!

Kelie finished Knit Your Love by Martina Behm and was very happy with the whole project. It was knitted from a handspun Merino/Tencel blend in a pink colorway.

She's continuing work on her Adriana by Coco Knits using Plymouth Linaza. Her Follow Your Arrow 2 will be put back into the knitting rotation once she can figure out where she stopped in the pattern.

Nancy finished her Flutterby sweater knitting out of Louisa Harding Noema yarn while standing in a really long line. She used short rows to bring the back neckline up a little to help the sweater fit better on her shoulders.

The Western Slope Tee from Interweave Knits Summer 2015 is the knitalong going on at the store. There are a lot of enhancements to the pattern happening, stop by the store to see the fun and join in!

The Knit Surfers enjoyed a freak thunderstorm at the beginning of the month. Lots of summer happenings going on!

Tour de Fleece starts July 4 and goes until July 26. The Ravelry group where it all happens can be found at Tour de Fleece. Kelie always gets better at spinning during the Tour and enjoys watching the projects on the Ravelry page.

Nancy enjoyed visiting Poway at the San Diego Knitters guild. She saw our friend Julie who is letting her display the Aisling shawl she just finished out of Anzula yarn.

The TKGA conference is coming up July 22-25 in San Diego. If you're going to be in the area, stop by the store to say hi!

Nancy is anxious to get the beads on her Summer Boxy Top. She wants to make some tank tops for the hot, muggy summer we've been having.

Some small projects that are easy to make for a lot of people are Tea Toters by Julie Tarsha and Earbud pouches by Mary Keenan.

Current Projects: Kelie's almost done with her Peasant Blouse, only a little more left to do on the second sleeve. Nancy is slowly but surely making progress on her Noema sweater.

Nancy had fun on with the dye class the last weekend in June. She dyed a skein of Abracadabra, a light sensitive yarn that changes color in the sun. Kelie has a pattern she wants to try with that yarn called Dressed up in Love by Lauren Riker.

Kelie's excited about Tour de Fleece, which starts July 4 and goes until July 26. The Ravelry group where it all happens can be found at Tour de Fleece. She is thinking about what her challenge should be, maybe teaching the boys how to spin? Her boys already have their summer projects picked out.

Nancy is looking forward to going to the Poway Knitting Guild on Monday to speak. She talks about her last day as a teacher at FIDM and what kind of projects the students turn in.

Kelie's got 3 projects on the needles - Peasant Blouse, Adriana, and Knit Your Love.

Knit in Public Day is this Saturday, June 13. Come over to the store and hang out for some fun!

There is a class field trip to the store on Friday, Nancy is really looking forward to seeing the group. Kelie talks about knitting in the Waldorf school and teaching children to knit.

Kelie's ready to cast on her Adriana by Cocoknits out of Linaza yarn by Plymouth.

There's been a little bit of spinning going on at the store, if you're interested in seeing a demo just ask and Nancy will pull out a wheel for you.

The Knit Surfers had a fun dye class at Common Threads with friends playing with color on Sunday. Kelie hopes to dye the color wheel someday and puts it on Nancy's To Do list. ;)

Kelie finished her Louisa Harding Felicity sweater and was ready to wear it but didn't want to do a full wet block. Nancy suggested a light steam block with an iron and it smoothed out the stitches and ridges. The sweater is perfect for San Diego and a fun knit.

Nancy gives us a lesson on care labels and how to read them.
